Journal Set 1 (Popularized Body Shape)

I think that standardized body size or idea of perfect body shouldn’t be taken into consideration too much because such ideas may be variable from culture to culture or from person to person.  Idealized beauty concepts have wrong and unethical effects on both an individual and world of advertisement and commerce.  To begin with effects of this strained concept of perfect body size on individuals, this idea affects people really bad especially in psychological way. People who don’t look like the ones showed in media may feel that they won’t be accepted by society or by their friends. This kind of situations may lead individuals to lose their self-esteem and they may become withdrawn people. Also these perfect images taking place everywhere make people obsessive about their looks. It is a common problem especially among teenagers these days and this also opens a road to bigger problems such as anorexia and depression. Secondly, this idea of perfect body size dictated by some people or associations provides unfair income to specific sectors. Magazines use the beautiful, perfect looking ladies and gentlemen to sell their copies. We don’t realize these images affect us, but our subconscious is affected almost directly by these images. Moreover, plastic surgery sector uses the same trick to convince people. What they are saying implicitly is when you have plastic surgery and look like the celebrities you see on covers of magazines you are going to be happy as they smile in the exact same covers. To sum up, we shouldn’t fall for these deceptive ideas and try to be happy as how we are.
